Inaugurated in 2007 with an extraordinary exhibit organized by the Guggenheim Foundation of Venice, “Arca” is an exhibition center designed by the architect Ferdinando Fagnola and located inside the medieval ex-Saint Mark’s Church, which contains recently restored frescoes and architectural features. The fact that the  exhibition area is a structure posed over the floor of the central nave (thus leaving the two side-aisles clear) creates a suggestive contrast between the modern space and technology of “Arca” and the medieval feel of the side-aisles and apse.
