The immense value of the natural reserve of Bessa lies not only in its natural wonders, but also in its open-air gold mine from Roman times. Nowadays it is full of archeological finds and home to many species of animals and plants. But the most important feature of the natural reserve lies in its rock formations of granite, gneiss, eclogite, and diorite, which are studied every year by hundreds of researchers from all over Europe.
